Question Can a BT 20v Harness, ECU & MAP work on a ST 20V??

I am doing my Homework on swapping in a 20v motor in my 86 SR5 Notchback AE86 and can find ST's All day long for cheap but with no AFM, Harness or ECU.

Well, as I have been reading that it is better to use a BT MAP set up rather that a ST MAF. So after I get the ST motor and start looking for the Harness...etc etc.. I was thinking of just looking for BT parts instead of ST parts if it is better but not or even if it will work?

I don't really want to go MS as that just gets more complicated. I don't really plan to rev the motor out to the limits. It is just that a 20V is about as cheap and as much of a task as the 16v and I want to just drive. The sound of the 4 TB's sucking air will sound sweet I Think and I know the tranny will not take much abuse but I am not going to Hotrod the car much as I want to use it as a daily driver.

So if it is possible to use BT parts on the ST. Is that all I need to look for is the Harness, MAP and ECU or is there something else??

Thanks

yes you can use the BT ECU to run MAP on a 20V ST but you'll need a piggyback ECU to tune your engine. without the piggyback the motor will run lean.

believe it or not, it'll be cheaper and better to run an MS set-up as it's a full standalone ECU. but to each is own.

also do more research about the swap, the question of w/c is better (MAP or AFM) is still up in the air IMO. i've seen results of ST motors with MAP set-up using BT ECU with very minimal gains, not worth the money if you ask me but at the same time, i've seen some that shows how efficient the AFM equipped engines are. i was going with the same set-up as what you're planning.. long story short.. i'm going full standalone.

OK, Sounds like it is the most sane way to go. I am looking for the easiest path.

I am still doing the research but I am definitely going to get the ST 20V because they are reasonablely priced.

I can drop the motor in and do the mechanical things myself. But on the Stand alone ECU's. What are you doing for that?

Are you going MS?

I know those MS's you can swipe parts from a Ford's but with the more expensive Stand Alone ECU's Do they include all the Sensors and stuff??

I will admit I have not looked in that direction yet but any heads up or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks.
