Towing with a newer Corolla???

I see on Edmunds website it says the corolla has a 1500 lb tow rating. Has anyone tried pulling 1500lbs with one? If so, how did it do? When they post that 1500 lbs is that including any payload inside the car? I am looking at hauling a couple of sportbikes (450lbs each) plus a trailer (prob 2-300lbs) and some extra gear. Is this going to destroy a corolla? I have a tacoma right now but I am getting pissed with the rediculous gas prices and fear they are going to move from rediculous to ludicrus. So any insight on the Towing capabilities would be appreciated. Thanks!

me and my friends go camping in the summer with my 94 usually 4 people plus my 40"X48"X36" trailer packed full of camping gear then 4 bikes on top, we made it there and back 800km round trip 2 years in a row...

If its an automatic then i would have a transmission cooler installed to disipate the heat.

Also theres a factor of how often your gonna do this if its gonna be every weekend get a bigger car! if its a couple times a year then your probably OK, just follow the "severe" maintenence schedule...

tow

So how much wt is that you are pulling? how about wt of the payload inside the car? I would probably pull the 1500Lbs plus payload in the car (500 or so) during the summer months maybe 5-10 times each year for a total of 200-300 miles each trip). As I said I have a Toyota tacoma V6 but it gets 17-19mpg and that Sucks! Love the truck, the utility of it and the 4x4 for the snow but I dont want to have to sell it when gas is 4.00 a gallon! I would have to give the dang thing away

The cost of the gas to use truck is nothing compared to the expense due to damaging or shortening the life of the Corolla. Play it safe and use the truck. It is built to take it.
