1993 Corolla/Prizm Temp gauge stays cold all the time

93 Prizm 1.6L

The temp gauge never gets to warm. It will start being below the mark and then eventually it will get just to the lowest mark and then never go past. Does this indicate a bad thermostat? Im not sure because Ive always heard of the temp gauge reading really hot when that goes out.

Incidentally, Im also losing coolant somehow. The reservoir goes down about a half an inch everyday

Problems are probably related somehow but I figure the temp gauge oddity may lead to the solution to both problems

Thanks in advance!

id check the system for leaks, to track down the issue with it loosing coolant.

As for it never warming up it is most likely the thermostat try changing it and see where its at

Is your heater blowing hot air? If so, it's your guage or sending unit. Also, how low is your coolant level? Refill it.

If you top off the coolant and it still does the same thing, first place to look is the thermostat. Especially in a 93. Any troubles with the system before this?
