Whats blue smoke from exhaust mean? i was racing my buddys oldschool celica with my AE-92 sedan,and i was infront,we were doing about 100mph..(interstate) and i was in front,(go rolla!!!!!!) and he told me when i let off the throttle he saw whisps of blue smoke ? i just did an oil change also,the care is in good care as well,good maintenence,im the second owner,my mother the first..whats this mean? is it gonna blow up or is this a thing that happens to older cars (its a 91) and could a good ol bottle of that stop smoke oil treatment stuff help? i've never used it on the corolla before but its never smoked before to my knowledge any input is Greatly appreciated as i love this car ALOT and if its got an issue it'll be fixed Pronto
some oil is burning for sure if it blue or black colored. Thgis will typically happen with older vehicles, but something is probably leaking. The stop oil stuff works ok, but not for along time. Basically the only way to fix that from getting worse is to rebuild... but thats not usually a good option for the expense part.
My advice would be to not use stop smoke or any other oil additive, for the most part they do more harm than good.
Your problem doesn't actually sound that bad at all, Does it smoke on a cold morning when you start it?
Solution1 = just keep an eye on your oil level, and top up as required. (don't let it run out!)Solution2 = Try running a thicker oil, (keep extreeme climates in mind)
Solution3 = Rebuild/replace worn parts.
You prolly need valve seals. Try this, find a long sweeping right turn that you can accellerate HARD all the way around, like an on ramp. At the end of the turn if you need valve seals you will probably be able to see the smoke in the mirror or stop suddenly and see if it's smoking. This works in a Tercel and they were designed by the same people so....
i would agree with the valve seals. there not critical so don't worry as its a big job to change them, just keep the oil topped up!
If you do opt to replace them it is possible to replace them without removing the cylinder head, with the use of a air hold to keep the valves up and a bridge style valve compressor!

sounds like a plan, Rings,valves...sounds good,it shall be done,like i said,if theres problem with this car,it WILL be fixed ,thank you for input folks ......OR....i could just keep dogging it till it blows then i HAVE to get a new motor and hell why not just replace it with a 4A-GE???? eh...option 1 sounds better....no blowing motors...thanks guys
Typically, you will burn oil constantly with bad rings.
If it's valve related, you usually notice the effects more on a cold start or when winding out the rpms (puff of smoke between shifts).
My 98 has just started burning oil over the past few thousand miles. I'm burning a quart about every 1,500 miles. I figure it's cheaper to buy oil by the case and keep adding until something major goes wrong and then find a junkyard engine.
A slight wisp? If that is all or if you get a tiny bit of blue smoke on startup just don't worry about it. Likely a tiny bit of oil is getting by your valve guides. Until you start seeing that all of the time don't stress about it. It's more or less normal. When it does happen just get the head rebuilt and be done with it.

Well,Rock On Guys,im at ease now,I LOVE that car,but since it only does it when im doing Over 100 & let off the throttle i think i'll be good for awhile,seeing as doing over 100 is NOT on this car regular daily agenda...and the OIl Level hasnt dropped at All since i changed it,which was like...the day before my FIrst question about it......So i think it's good to Go,just an Old car that doesnt like going over 100. Thanks again Guys....its Due for a Rebuild this summer anyways..found some internals for a 4A-FE that'll do it juuuust fine....
Yea don't do that anymore these cars are commuters not race cars. Sure they like to run away from you on the highway but don't press your luck. My Bro in law finally confessed on EXACTLY why the previous motor blew, he got the car to 110 held it there for a bit and once he slowed the car had a rod knock. I'm just now getting the motor back to where she was powerwise before the last motor blew.
