86 gts erratic starting problem

My gts sometimes starts ok 4 or 5 times then wont start, wait a little while 5 min to 1 hour then will fire again.(It cranks but wont hit at all). Then it might start 3 to 5 times then wont start again??? wait over night will start and then same problem as before. I jumped the fuel pump and it runs and has fuel flow but no start even with jumper in place . also it sometimes will stop responding to throttle acting like linkage is broke and will idle only regardless of pedal position. Let it sti a while and it acts like normal again for a while and then at the worst time it won't start again.

The starter contacts are worn out, you need to change them or rebuild the starter.

The other problem, not sure but it sounds to me like its idling to warm up the car. Temp sensor maybe.

I was having that sort of issue a while ago...on to other ones, good ole cars, gotta love'em

I looked into the ignition, coil (was blaster 2 MSD , back to stock coil now) was kinda flaking out, doing the same sorta shit, caughing and cutting out. I changed the cap 'cause it was pretty scuzzy and corroded. I also checked the pump, thought fuel pressure too. But no, the coil check & change & cap change, that fixed her right up and had more power to boot I'd check all the ignition stuff, coil/ignitor/wires/plugs. Maybe a coil about to pack it in, couldn't tell you.

I don't know, but myself, I went hunting ignition way, so far stopped that problem. Starters tend to make bad noises like cats in pain in my experience...

I have about came to the same conclusion on the coil thing,this car has an igniter pack that works with the EFI and it is dead when the car acts up but the contacts on the coil are testing hot.Gonna try a coil and see what happens. Thanks guys!
