The muffler on my 86 GTS is driving me nuts. half the bottom of it is rusted out and it sounds like a really raspy rice pipe. i'm replacing it tomorrow and wanted your all's opinion. first if anyone knows the stock exhaust sizes it would save me the trouble and be appreciated. next i have shopped around for a cheap muffler and this is what i found. advanced has a Walker Turbo for $30, Auto zone has a CherryBomb Turbo 2 for $20, and oreilly's has a raptor which is a hooker muffler for about the same price. has anyone used one of these before and if so how do they sound. any precautions to these mufflers, or the exhaust system. what is your preferance of these or anywhere else you can think of. money is an object here and i don't want to spend a lot of it. tell me what you think.
My 89 Corolla just had the muffler replaced, it had to be cut off and a new one welded on. $90.00. I can't tell you thye brand, it is a stock muffler, but sounds throaty. I was expecting it to be more quiet, but it aint. Also, we had a new Catalytic converter put on last year.
I've had a variety of mufflers on my car including the original Cherry Bomb, the CB Turbo, and the Raptor, and they all sound way too loud and are garbage. I just put my stock one on a few days ago, because nothing sounds good when you dont have a resinator
X2 my friend. hell just because it's a weedeater engine doesn't mean it's gotta sound like one. I'm no hater of the small engines just of the people who rice them out. props to anyone who actually goes for performance with one. I would love to have a big engine. preferably an older muscle car like a cutlass with atleast a 350 in it, but school and lodging are taking my money so i can't afford $100 of gas a week. so i appreciate a small engine with a lot of potential. I want exhaust i can hear well, just not 10 miles away like most of them. i want to be able to hear it because it makes shifting a lot easier on the mind. i"ve owned two cars in high school, a v8 caddy eldorado, and still have my v6 monte carlo. by far the toyota is the most fun to play with, and put gas in.
ohh yeah BTW the "cherry bomb" isn't a real cherry bomb it's the brand only. it basically looks like a hollow case with two baffled pipes sticking in it which are offset from each other. i figure it probably wouldn't be a lot different sound but it got me curious.
My rear muffler has a 2-1/2" inlet and 5" outlet with the stock pipe from the manifold it has a nice note to it and its not overly loud or Ricey its the Autotechnika branded.
All up cost me AU$120 for the muffler and AU$30 to get it fitted But sounds Beefy with out the tinny noise to it
