It has an ECT-I tranny. Or (ELECTRONICLY CONTRONED TRANSMISSION). What it does is learns how the driver drives ans selects the correct shift points based on the style of your driveing. And yes they do seam to downshift alot.

They come with ECT transmission, but not ECT-i. ECT-i transmisson applies for Camry, avalon, and other more expensive toyotas. Im not sure if ECT tranny learns to owner's driving style, but it does downshift when braking on downhills and hold on to one gear when going up and downhill consequatively.
