'94 Corolla Axle Trouble
All,
I have a '94 Corolla 1.8L 5-Speed manual transmission without anti-lock brakes. The outer CV boot ripped on the driver side. I bought a remanufactured half-axle from a local parts shop. The bad axle has already been returned for the core value so I can't use it for comparison with the new axle. After a day or so I noticed gear case oil leaking from the differential seal. I hadn't replaced the seal when I did the axle so I went and bought a new seal. When I went to replace it I noticed the axle i quite loose at the differential. The axle is clipped firmly in place it just wobbles up/down and side/side. I don't remember the old axle being loose in this manner. I removed the axle, took it back to the parts shop to confirm it is the correct axle. It appears it is the correct axle. Does anyone have any experience with a similar problem, know what's causing it to be loose, or have physical dimensions or specs on the axle?
Thanks, Tom.
