89 SR5 4af, what should the idle be?

It was at like 1700, which I knew couldn't be right, so I have it set now at about 900-1000rpm.

Is that right? If not, what should it be?

not sure wat the correct idle is but i have the exact same car as you and mines around 1200k-900rpm. I turned mine up a little more because of winter. Once it gets warmer ill turn it down a little more. But that is of course after the choke is kicked out, when the choke is on when the car first starts up its around 2500-2000k.

800-900 is the area where it should be.

Why you turn it up during winter? That doesnt benefit anything.

Mine was up, and I liked it in the winter as it would warm up faster (since it was revving higher), but it dieseled everytime I shut it off!

In order for it to not stutter when you shut it off. Just do a quick rev before hand, doesnt have to be high just put ur foot to the ground and let off quick. Guarenteed you wont have that problem anymore. Yes i turn it up in the winter only because it fluctuates a lot and it was dieing when it got really low.

I can only imagine how much it would suck to drive my car if it idled that low! It sucks now at 800rpm!

mine is sitting at 750 rpm at idle atm but at idle when the car is warm, the low oil pressure light comes on so ya it needs to be higher

I wonder what sticker you've been reading, my sticker says 800rpm, not 650, 650 is already too low for most. Tho with twin webers I could idle at 500 smoothly.
