AE92 1990 SR5 vs GTS question

hey everyone, i purchased a 1990 sr5 corolla and i love it, but the handling is not anywhere near what i want in a sports car. what i am wondering is how i can get it to be as good or better than a gts.

I've heard that gts control arms have a special place for a front sway bar, is there any way i can customize my control arms to fit a sway bar? I cant seem to find gts control arms anywhere for less than $125 a peice.

Also, other general ideas for helping my handling would be great

thanks a lot.

Upgrade your springs and struts. Something like Apex, B+G..Eibach for springs..for struts lots of people get KYB's but you can also get Tokicos which are more of a stiffer strut I believe?

You may also wanna get a front strut tower bar..an OEM one off of a GTS would be best but you could also use a cheaper aftermarket one.

I posted a response to a similar question on another thread yesterday except he was asking about putting GTS parts to his sedan. My response applies here too.

I believe that's a no, they're not compatible.

Also, please make sure you read the original dates on the threads before replying.

use to have a sr5 and now have a gts. but on my sr5 i had a front sway bar and just coilovers front and rear with about a 1/2 inch drop on both and some gts shocks i picked up from a junkyard and the car was turning hard and turning flat. it set me back about 400 bucks total between parts and having to have the coilovers put in because lack of proper tools. but it was well worth the money. another thing, good rubber. nothing beats good rubber.

bump for having ae92

Hey, sorry for the random question but, is it possible for a 1989 AE92 sr5 to have its engine swapped for a 20 valve 4age? The stock engine it has is carburated with the 4AF engine. Also, is it possible to convert the sr5 from an Automatic to a Manual transmission here in America? Is the engine swap legal? Will it be difficult to do? Grr... ehehe If so, would a $600 20v 4age wid manual or auto trans a good deal? How much should I pay for labor?

Yeah dude its legal. Swap cost can vary greatly. Depends on who does it for you. Best bet is take it to a shop. Go ahead and get the engine, take it to the shop with the vehicle. That way they can tell you what else you will need if anything.
