I'm working on a friends '91 corolla AE92 5 speed in the morning. problems are: constant illuminated CEL and funky tacho.
CEL: no noticable problems such as lack of power, poor running, bad mileage, etc. just a constant CEL. anyone have an online manual, preferrably the TSRM or at least a CEL report list and is the procedure similar to other toyotas: short terminals (which ones?) in the engine bay connector and count flashes?
tach: doesnt do anything when first started, slowly rises over a few minutes as the engine warms up (maybe...5-8 minutes driving) up to about 1500. after that it seems to work OK. tacho is prolly the least important gauge, merely a quantification of what you can hear..but its nice to have it working since its there...looks better.
I do a lot of work on my 88 cressida, so im not engine-illiterate. i also spend way too much time on the cressida forum, so im not forum illiterate, i tried searching and didnt get anything.

My FX16 ran fine, but I kept getting this stupid check engine light warning me about the "rpm signal". Found an awesome condition dizzy @ a wrecking yard, plugged it in, CEL went away immediately. Although my car is a 4AGE, I'm guessing the 4AFE still atleast have a similar setup.
how much did the dizzy cost if you dont mind? will changing the cap and/or roter fix it maybe? given that the dizzy itself is mechanical, the electrical parts are the cap and roter.... cheaper=better. still havent gotten the chance to check the CEL.

opened the dizzy cap and there was a few grains of sand in there, and some corrosion on the terminals. nothing a little wire brush work didnt solve. pulled the codes this weekend, getting 25 and 26...for my 88 cressida, that means rich and lean respectively, im guessing its the same for the corolla. it could probably use a new O2 sensor but what else should i look into for having both rich and lean conditions? MAF sensor (?), vacuum leaks, injectors on the way out? the car seems to run OK. certainly considering its got 160K+ miles.
