JDM AE*86 Bumper question...

Is there any difference between Zenki and Kouki rear bumpers for the ae86???

and if there is a difference is it cosmetic or mounting design?

I've looked at pics and have yet to develop the ability to tell apart zenki from kouki

any *positive* input would be welcome

ty

They look different and have different brackets.

I've had both, the rear zenki and kouki brackets are slightly different, the zenki ones have an extra metal extension that the kouki bracket do not.
None of this matters if you fabricate the brackets yourself.

Cosmetically, you should be able to see the difference with the two side by side. Zenki is more rounded and the kouki is more squared off with an extra line underneath the bumper edge.

You know those JDM bumpers are a death wish right? I was inquiring about them some time ago. When I was told that they were nothing but plastic and lacked the safty of our OEM bumpers. So I decided to stick with the ones that I already have.

Ya, our bumper regulations are a bit stronger here in North America due to the fact that our vehicles are larger as a whole, as well as we have a lot of truck's.

There's a few tricks you can do to reinforce them without adding weight.

Realistically Gord, these bumpers were sold as oem around the world on AE86's in Japan, Asia, Africa, Europe and so on, people there aren't dying off like some epidemic just because of a bumper.

I can personally justify the risk since my car won't be plated anymore.
