99 Corolla--Timing Belt
What's up, Toyota Nation? I'm a first time poster who's hoping someone could help me out. I have a 99 Corolla, w/89,000 miles and automatic transmission. I was looking at the maintenance schedule book to see what I needed to have checked/replaced at 90k miles. My maintenance book is for all Toyota models, not just the Corolla. In the front, there's a general section that gives a little description of different maintenance items (coolant, spark plugs, air filters, tire rotation, etc.). Under timing belt it says: "Replace every 90,000 miles." But when I go back to the Cars & Sienna maintenance log section, at 90,000 miles, it says: "Replace Timing Belt (except Corolla)." I also noticed that it says the same thing for the 4-cyl Tacoma and 4-cyl 4Runner in the Trucks/Suv's section. So, my question is: Do I need to replace the timing belt on my '99 Corolla? The book doesn't mention replacing the Corolla's (or Tacoma's/4Runner's) timing belt at any higher mileage.
I didn't replace the belt on my 85 Corolla until it fell off on it's own at about 110,000 miles. After that experience, I did make sure to replace the timing belt on my 95 Corolla at about 80,000 miles. Now, I have this Corolla and I was just wondering if anyone else had their timing belt replaced? I am actually having a few problems with the shifting (stays at a higher RPM longer than usual before shifting.)
So, again, should I have the timing belt replaced or should i just get a tune-up?
Any reponse would be appreciated. Thanks.
