2005 Corolla S Airbag light & Fuel problems

So I got a 2005 corolla S recently that had some minor damage on the driver's side on the rear door and quarter panel, and got that taken care of.

The car had a blown driver's side airbag and a locked seat belt, and also had a cracked box near the left rear wheel near the fuel tank that was cracked (it was maybe 3"x3"x2" in size). I replaced the airbag + seatbelt, and the cracked box.

Now I have two problems. First, the airbag light won't turn off. What exactly is the "wire ground" trick, and does it work on newer corollas, or do I have to replace the airbag module itself, too? Second, whenever I fill up, I can only fill up $0.50 of gas a time before the pump shuts off on me. What could be wrong with my fuel system, and what exactly is that little box? I'm certain it's not leaking/losing pressure.

I can't help you with the airbag issue.

Your fuel filling problems are another story. Since there was damage on the rear drivers side it sounds like there may be a kink/dent in the fuel filler neck leading to the tank. That will definately impede the flow of gas and can cause the pump auto-shutoff to kick in.

I already pulled the filler tube out to check it, but it doesn't look like it has any kinks in it. The little box i replaced had a filter in the middle and tubes coming out of either side. I have no idea what that box is, but it looks like it's connected to a bigger box with some sort of sensor (or solenoid?).

The only reason I ever noticed the small box needed to be replaced in the first place was after I drove it down my street and stopped, it smelled like gas.
