Rear wipers are plenty useful, both my cars have them and I'm very grateful they are there (although they are hatchbacks so it makes an even bigger difference).

Not euro thats for sure, we dont have rear wipers on ours, except the 2 door hatchbacks and some other japanese cars with a hatch tail (200SX, Lancer with the long rear glass, etc), but not cars with trunks.

Ok, found it. It wasn't factory, but it could be ordered at the dealer. Here is a scan that I found it in from my Sprinter Trueno owner's manual:

So use your wing mirrors.

Is whats behind you really that important that you would go to the trouble and expense of fitting a rear wiper??

it must have been a factory option. Maybe thats options you can get it with from the factory? like a/c sunroof and so on. Because for it to be a dealer mod that means they had to change the rear window... Plus it shows other options like the apolstered center console and such. Plus they would have to change the rear break light and I also noticed the wing is different then out north america version, lack of the read brake light in the center

The way people order cars in japan are different. Majority of the cars are built-to-order, so yes it's a factory option. You won't see a number of them on the lot to choose from unless it's a used car lot.
