I believe the paseo is actually built on the tercel platform and I think they differ mainly by their exterior.

uhh... isn't the paseo the USDM version of the AE101/AE111 Levin?

blah they look significantly different enough... but I am not sure on the engine internals... look up some pics...

corolla = 4 door econobox
paseo = 2 door sporty econobox

No it isn't, GreyAE92 is correct dead on.

Paseo & Tercel = E series engine, torsion rear beam axle, smaller, etc.

Corolla = A series engine, larger, independent rear suspension, etc.

Smaller and less costly than a Celica, the front-drive Paseo sport coupe replaced the 2-door Corolla GT-S and SR5 in 1992. Paseo shared its wheelbase with the subcompact Tercel, but styling differed considerably. The 4-cylinder engine also came from the Tercel, but was boosted to 100 horsepower with the additional of dual camshafts. A 5-speed manual transmission was standard; 4-speed automatic optional. Paseos got a firmer suspension than Tercel, including a rear stabilizer bar and 14-inch tires (versus the Tercel's 13-inch rubber).

From: http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2240.htm

It's a Tercel with better suspension.

The paseo never came with a 4AGE.. the ae101/111 did. damn japs keep all the good chit to themselves!!! :x hehehehe...
plus considering the Paseo was built on the Tercel platform, it never handled quite as good as the ae92 GTS.

If you look at a Paseo (EL5X) and a 2 door Tercel (also EL5x), they are identical. The Paseo is just the Tercel with a different interior and skin.

1) no
2) if a car never made it into the US, then there would be no such thing as a USDM version....
