'98 VE starting problem

I have a '98 corolla VE with 120K mi and I have been having a problem with starting the car. It clicks when I try to start it and it will do this about 10x's then try to start and if i give it gas it will keep the start. If it's been running for awhile it will start again, but after it sits for a long time it does the same thing again. I had the battery replaced and I still have the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? Thanks. Audrey Illinois

Common issue with Corollas. You probably have worn starter contacts. Should be under $12 at the dealer for the parts.

Pull out the starter. Remove the three bolts holding it together. Look at the copper contacts inside and replace in the same orientation. You will probably see deep grooves in the old contacts. Reassemble and install back into the car.

Good DIY project that will save you $$$ (new starters begin at $150 before labor)

'98 VE starter

I can't thank you enough for the info! My dad had said it might be that too. It seemed to do this before only when it was damp or rainning out???? Strange! It would sure be cheaper to replace those so I hope that's what it is too! Thanks again.
