My XRS is complete (for now)

My first real project car is complete

I'll still do a few more small modifications to it, but it is now like it should have been when I got it. 9 months and a little over $1000 later I'm completely happy with my ride. Now I just have to enjoy it. Here is what I have done:

Injen Cold Air Intake (from 2004 matrix XRS)
Flowmaster 40 series exaust (stealth mode, hidden up under my body kit)
HKS Grounding Kit
Tien S-Tech Springs
Energy Suspension motor mount inserts
Tinted windows 30%
Tinted licence plate cover
Red licence plate lights (the cover and light make the plate glow red at night)
Red brake calipers (I may change this to gunmetal or silver soon)
OBX silver pedals (they are cheap plastic, but so is the rest of my interior)

Thanks to the grounding kit, ES motor mount inserts, CAI, and exaust my car takes off very quickly and has plenty of power on tap at all rpms. It also sounds sweet wiht a very deep throaty growling tone.

The Injen CAI is a well made piece that looks sweet, sounds sweet, and adds sweet power. It makes lift sound like the motor is going to jump out of the hood, I love to time my passes so that lift kicks in when my motor is right next to the other driver, preferably with his/her window down.

The grounding kit helped a little bit, but mostly gave me something to do on a Saturday and looks neat. The car starts quicker, the radio sounds nicer, and the motor pulls a little bit harder at low rpms. No more rpm searching at idle either. I like it.

I hid my flowmaster 40 series exaust up under my body kit because I hate shiny huge fart can ricer mufflers. I hate em!!!!! I love it when people hear me start up and then walk around the back of my car looking for my muffler. The flowmaster 40 series mufflers sound great, very very deep throaty growl sound and it helped a lot with my low end power. I really noticed a difference. Oh and it is still a 2" exaust system, a NA 1.8Liter motor does NOT need bigger piping than that.

My shifting is immensely better thanks to the ES motor mount inserts. There is no wheel hop on a hard launch and every gear shifts smoothly. It is also much better in stop and go traffic, the motor is not flopping all over in the bay anymore.

It handles like it's on rails thanks to the springs from Tien. I tried and tried and the body will not roll on a sharp turn. It will understeer before showing body roll, and it takes a lot to get it to understeer now. The ride is also softer now.

The tint, plate cover, red bulbs in the plate light, and red calipers helped dress up the exterior while maintaining a clean look.

I hate exterior stickers on a car so I put all of mine on the inside where I can enjoy them and not suffer ricer looks from people. I got the cheap OBX pedal covers because they match the shitty cheap plastic that Toyota graced the interior of the XRS with.

As far as future mods go, I plan on adding a few things down the line. I'm gonna have this car for a while so I plan on enjoying it. Eventually I want a nitrous kit, lightweight flywheel, beefy clutch, new wheels, stainless brake lines, slotted rotors, better brake pads, and more

I totally dig my car, what do you all think? It sure is nice to be done with something, for a while at least.....

Yo man goooood stuff. I like how you hid the muffler... definitely original.

Did the Teins give you much of a drop and are the stock XRS struts enough to handle them?

It was a 2.5" drop for a Corolla S or CE, and a 1.75" drop for the already lower XRS. It handles very well. People who have had them on their Corolla for 2 or more years have not suffered blown shocks. This could be because all 9th gen corollas come with KYB nitrogen shocks from the factory.

Thanks for the muffler compliment

Not to tear you down but.....

Have you seen the Greddy exaust? It is unbelievable HUGE. People scrape theirs on speedbumps at stock spring hieght, and it is disasterous to lower it. The exaust is seriously huge. I'd recomend something else.

As far as underdrive pulleys go, many many Celica GT-S owners have torn up their engines using them, the 2zz motor does not respond well to pulleys for whatever reason. Go look at www. newcelica .org and do a search.

You can get the Injen CAI anywhere, just order one for the 2004 Matrix XRS, it is the exact same thing, right down to the smog pump. It is a 2 piece tube for easier installation, and the filter is hidden up inside your bumper safe from hydrolock, unless you drive in to a lake or something. I got mine from ptuning.com I highly recomend the Injen intake, people have dyno'd it and found 10+ WHP gains.

Thanks for all the compliments
