AE86 Blue top to Red top

Hey guys, just have a few questions regarding my motor swap. i had to abandon my 20V swap due to time and part availability. So instead i purchased a 16V red top for my 86. so now i have the two motors side by side in the garage. i just have a few quick questions before i tear into the motors.

Are there any specifics that i need to adress when doing the swap. i know i need the T-VIS eliminator plate (allready purchased). i got a new clutch, but that's about it. i noticed some differences as far as cooling, and a few harness plugs. I have my original blue top ECU, whicih should be sufficient to run this motor cosidering the fact that i'm changing the manifold.

So that's about it, just looking to see if there are any known issues that need to be adressed. Any replies are greatly appreciated. Really want to finish this so i can start coming to the meets again.

Thanks guys.

which "redtop" is it? is it a bigport redtop (ie, a tvis motor) or a smallport redtop (non tvis, with an oildrain back on the back of the head by #4)

if it's the first, then you basically bought the same motor you already have (only a heavier crank and stronger block), if it's the second then you're ready for business

i'll help ya more when you say which it is

Why are you removing TVIS?? and yes your bluetop ECU will run a redtop just fine.

There was a redtop tvis. Still not sure which one he has, but after rereading his post I'd say its most likley he has a smallport. In which case I wouldn't be so sure about running a bluetop ecu.

its a small port, NON T-VIS. That's why i had to get the Tvis eliminator plate, to take up the space where tvis used to be, because i'm using the blue top intake manifold

Just had a talk with a mate of mine who has gone through about 6 4age in his race car, and was told that as long as you use everything from the bluetop it will run fine, that's all blue top electrical parts.

So that sounds promising, Good luck with it.

AE86 flat spot eh?

ok, well this might be a stupid proposition, but here goes anyway. what if i use the injectors from the red top and the same fuel rail. i was thinking of splicing the wires on the injectors and using the blue top connectors on the red top injectors. not sure if it will work, but if they both have 2 wire leads shouldldn't it work....theoreticaly? i dunno. its eithr that or using supra injectors i heard will work.

if anyone knows let me know. cuz that's prety much the only thingh olding me back. this and the cooling system. the blue top is a lots impler then the red top.

and they have different flow rates. The redtop ones are bigger, which if used with a bluetop ECU will make it run really rich.
