I'm totally confused about this. Yesterday I put a deposit on a 2006 Corolla LE. They didn't have the one in stock that I wanted, with a sunroof but were certain they could get it. Today they called to say it is impossible to get from other dealers within the area I live & with what I want (ABS brakes, airbags and in red) BUT they (the dealer) would install a sunroof for me, no extra charge, with someone they always use and supposedly do regularly. I'm very insecure about this but told them to go ahead. I still have a few hours left before they actually start doing this, what's your opinion....go for it, cancel the order. They offered to return my deposit.
IMO aftermarket sunroofs are not as good as the OEM since the OEM were specifically designed for the car, aftermarket ones are usually of lower quality and usually leak.
I was told this too. "They" have a reputable installer. I didn't like the sound of it. My Corolla is on order from California. I feel better with a "factory" one.
One thing I am still concerned about is the integrity of the roof after a Sunroof is put in. Will it hold up in the event of a roll over? Or will I be crushed and be scraped off the insides of the car?

Why don't you let them know your unhappy and pissed and make them upgrade you to a LE with all of the same features you want for the same price?...I'm sure they have plenty of 06 LE's around with all the options you want.....just a thought ~Radd
NOOOOOOOOOOO. Stay away from aftermarket ones! It most likely won't have the OEM rain channels which will eventually cause leaks. You don't even know if it's a power sunroof, oh gawd, I can only picture the manual lift up only sunroofs. AVOID AVOID AVOID. Corollas are EVERYWHERE, if they can't get you one, call several dealers and tell them what you want. The first one to call you back will get your business.
I did this and had my car the way I wanted within 2 weeks! I had 5 dealers searching all over the place for me. My car was so new that the plastic wrapping was still on the seat, and I was the first guy to test drive that car (bought it with 8mi on the odo).
Good Advice ADVANT ....I bought my 03'S with 5m on the odo ..Can still remember while driving home people beeping at me giving me the or was it the ~Radd
Yea aftermarket ones sucks... don't ruin the car. Most oem ones leak after a certain age to. If you open it to much or to little the seal with go. I got lucky with my 17 years on and no leak PHEW
It will be the exact same type roof, power tilt. The only thing different will be the inside control "button". It has the same 36 month warranties as the rest of the car. I feel like I can't really get screwed but I agree that it doesn't feel right to have a brand new car hacked apart. BUT if you think of it as a customization, which people spend tons of money on, then it seems more reasonable. Like "pimp my ride" I'll call today and ask about those rain drains & seals. Thanks everyone for all the input.

By the way...mine is an LE. I ordered stuff like Vehicle Stability control...side air bags...etc. This is why it is taking so long.

DOnt do it. It is not the same as OEM. Toyota or any other manufacturer for tha tmatter does not sell replacemtn sunroofs that you can put in your car. They sell all the pieces to repair them but not the entire roof. Aftermarket has come a long way in regards to roofs but they are still not a good choice in my opinion. A used car dealer I used to work for had aSequioa with an aftermarket roof and it leaked like a sieve and the headliner never fit right . We sent it out several times trying to get it repaired and it was jsut never right. We also could not sell the thing. People would start looking at it and see the controls for it and ask what it was. If you ever decide to get rid of the car it will msot likely depreciate the car even more. THe rain channels that someone else mentioned are also a problem. Aftermarket roofs have to be sealed completely to not elt water in. OEM roofs have drains that run down the A-pillars so any water that gets by the glass seal will drain off. Most of the time the factory roofs actually dont seal that well but they almost never leak.
in closing DONT DO IT> Make them get you the car that you want with all of the options you want. If they cant do taht then go somewhere else. In the long run you will be much happier.

PLEASE DO NOT GET RID OF THE OLD TN AS WE KNOW IT.
The deed is done...I've told them to go ahead and open it up like a sardine can.
The dealer gave me reassurances-- it's a gigantic dealership and I'm choosing to trust them. They only use one place that specializes in sunroofs. It will have a rain drain built into it. He said only cheap ones that are dropped in don't have that. The car, including the aftermarket sunroof has a 36 month warranty and the sunroof has a lifetime warranty from the company that installs it. This Toyota dealership has a very good reputation, and I'm hoping for the best.
The real problem, and why waiting for a factory installed one isn't an option, is that Toyota makes very, very few Corolla LEs with the Sunroof, ABS brakes AND side airbags all in one car. I could have gotten everything I wanted easily if I left out the side airbags option. Since my Jetta has all of that, I wanted the same thing in my new Corolla. He said that while they do offer it, they actually make very few with all three options in one car. And if I didn't already have side airbags, I certainly would have bought one without them.
So, looks like I'll be getting my new red LE this week
