Ok other than the Top End of the Motor and Pistons. Is there anything else motor wise that makes these motors special? ie... Block, Crank, Rods, Transmission...etc etc...???
I ask this as I want to build me a 4AGTE 16v or 7AGTE 16v for my 86 AE86 using the best parts Toyota made.
I have an ST 20v/5spd combo if there are better parts inside this engine then a 4AGE or 4AGZE I could use those and sell off what I don't need.
well the tranny is close ratio but its useless to you... and overall the 20v is an excelletn motor.. but if you want to boost you might as well just get a 4agze or 3sgte .... go with 3sgte... i think you'll be happy with that motor..

Actually from what I've been reading on Dorikaze, the Silvertop 20V + GZE pistons is even better than a normal GZE for boosting as the Silvertop and the GZE share a lot of components. Someone is building one right now and its looking good.

Any suggestion are appreciated. Thank you
The silvertop share its rods/crank/block with the GZE so they are really strong the only difference is the pistons and head.
for a good strong setup I would use the 20v with GZE pistons (late model ones with 8.9:1 compression).
You said you have a 20v with a five speed?? 20v only came in FWD so that box is going to be useless for your ae86, I would suggest you look for a W series gearbox for it if your building a serious motor.
You also said you want to build a "4AGTE 16v or 7AGTE 16v".
So you don't want to use the 20v head??

I've seen T50s and Wxx transmissions matched to 20V motors. The T50 is the one that came in the 86, I can't remember correctly but there isn't too much to do to match it to the 20V.
Well, Right now I am just trying to learn and gather the parts I need. So if the Bottom end is the same as the GZE with different pistons then I will keep that part and sell off what I don't need.
Also Yes, the Tranny is FWD but didn't know if it was anything special or if it was just a common transmission? If it special I might sell it too to help offset the GTE Project?
Now what about the Flywheel? Is that a Good One to use for Boost or should I look for a GZE one?

Yes the t50 will bolt up just fine, but if your making good power you will kill it pretty fast.
And also the big GZE clutch doesn't fit into the T50 belhousing. Thats why I suggested a W series box.
Give us a budget and goal, here in NZ I have seen 2 20v turbos and 2 GZE turbo all making over 180kw @ the wheels. And heard of heaps of others.
There's is a 20v turbo with over 500hp @ the rear wheels. So anything is possible.

AFAIK, the 2nd Gen STs are the ones identical to the last Gen 4A-GZE (MAP). the earlier STs also have a different intake port compared to the 2nd Gen ones. the earlier ST's intake port is like the bluetop TVIS' port while the 2nd Gen's is like a teardrop shape like the BT ones except the BT's port is wider.
punter's right, if you're seriously aiming for big torque go with the W series tranny, it'll take more punishment than the T50s. the only major problem with the is finding an adaptor or bellhousing. i'm getting mine custom made in the Philippines. also you might wanna use the 212mm flywheel for larger surface grab. bigger injectors from a 1JZ or 2JZ will be also a good upgrade.

hmmm.. mike you got any pics of 1st and 2nd gen ST's???
i had them before my pc got wiped out by a freakin' virus. if you're buying an ST, just look at the throttle cable spring-type mechanism. the 1st Gen has 2 and the 2nd Gen has 1. but like someone said before, i think it was punter on a different thread, some people change theirs just to screw everyone up. so really the only way to be sure is to take off the ITBs and look at the intake ports but i don't know if the surplus shops will let you do that, hehehe.
btw, the complete engine being sold at the for sale section is 1st Gen.

And How hard is it to get one of these Bellhousings from the Philippines?
almost next to impossible. most people i know brought it back when they went on vaction. the only person i can think of selling it was Rhett del Rosario (TOYCOOLROLLA on www.club4ag.com). i don't know how much he's charging though. maybe you should start asking people of an adapter plate that will mate the 4A bellhousing to the W tranny.
