Question New to site and have some questions

I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla VE that I just recently purchased and have a few questions. The 99's have a timing chain and not a belt? Correct of incorrect? Also have a noise in the front end that is not motor related. I had the tires rotated and balanced. I also had an alignment done. The front left tire was cupped out some. My question is the noise that I am still hearing is that the tire or a bad wheel bearing? Any thoughts or input will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jason

A tire cupping is usually a sign of a bad strut. A bad strut could also cause noise. What type of noise is it? I've had a bad strut cause tire wear that sounded like a "slap".

The bounce test to check your struts isn't reliable on the Corolla since the car is so light. Any decent tire/frontend shop can diagnose your strut/front end problems. BTW, timing chain.

You never said that when you rotated the tires if the sound went away or to the rear? I had cupping on my front tires and it was from over-sized tires, they threw my caster angle off....And it did make a road noise...I had an alignment done also and that's when they told me of my problem the over-sized tires were throwing my caster angle off....What did the alignment printout say, it should have told you how your alignment was before and after, if you had bad struts they would have told you also...Also if your bearings are bad if you jack the front tire up and spin it you should hear a sound...My guess its that cupped tire any little imperfection on a tire will make a sound...good luck
