How do I deactivate passanger seatbelt chime/ding for a 2005 Corolla?

Drives me nuts. Anyone know how to deactivate this feature? When the passanger doesn't get his seatbelt on in under 10 microseconds the chime goes off and speeds up. I wanna stick a screwdriver throught the dash.

Search for the 9th gen corolla forum on the web, there's a thread about it there.

Wear a seatbelt possibly? Could be one way to stop it

Yeah do a search its been talked about tons of times.

I've always heard people complaining about that chime and I always wondered what the big deal was...well...I was driving my gf's 2005s and she didn't put her seat belt on right away and the damn car started freaking out. I would have laughed if it wasn't so annoying!

ok... so that was no help to you but I felt that I could identify with your problem.

My 03 passenger side only flashes, no chimes just on the drivers side...But its weight activated, mine flashes when I
put a heavy bag of groceries on the passenger seat, so maybe check for a wire going up to the seat cushion and snip it, its right in the middle because when I move the bag to the side the flasher goes off.......Radd

Are you sure snipping this wire won't affect the air bags?

Never thought of that Guido, could be... I never tried it so I don't know but I do know there's a pressure sensor in/under the seat.....Maybe the best idea for your own safety is to "live with it"...Radd

Try this. Worked as advertised on my 05 CE, a 06 Matrix XR and a 06 Camry LE;

1) Turn the car ON, Do not start the engine (Leave your foot off the brake). Cycle your trip reset knob until you it reads ODO. Turn the ignition back off. Wait a couple of seconds.

2) Make sure seat belt is not fastened

3) Turn the ignition back on, do not start the car (Leave you foot off the brake), As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset knob and do a long 12 second count.

4) Keep your finger on the trip reset knob. Fasten your seat belt, as soon as you fasten your seat belt, you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". At that time take your finger off the trip reset knob and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". You should be all set and turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt.

I agree too much work, but maybe that programs it to to never beep - so you only have to do it once. If you have to do that every time, I'd rather find the beeper and stick a screwdriver through it!

Lol...I had a jeep Liberty rental last year and it had the loud bells/chimes for the seat-belt warning , and instead of going continually it would go off for 5-10 seconds and you would think it stopped then it would start up again ..talk about driving a person nuts...But I guess its for our own protection Bad ride that Liberty was ....Radd....

That's it. The procedure I outlined WILL silence the buzzer FOR EVER. And it is reversible if somehow, you'd want the buzzer back...

Interesting. Where did you learn that? Are there any other "tricks" that can be done?

I got this from someone on this very board about a year ago in response to a topic I had started asking the same question.

The procedure he gave me was for an Avalon but seems to work well on other Toyotas as well.

I don't know of any other tricks.

One more thing, the procedure for the seatbelt buzzer won't kill the other usefull buzzers in your Corolla, such as the headlights on or door open chime.
