Tomorrow I am going to a dealership to look at this car again. It is a certified 05 corolla with 9000 miles The price they are asking is $14995. I am going to make an offer of $12,500. Do you think this is reasonable I figured you can only go up. I'm sure the dealer is not going to like my initial offer, so what should I go up to bargaining for this car?Edmunds values:
trade:$12,091 private:$13,343 dealer:$14,446
yea so see the dealer isnt charging an outrageous price for this rolla at least. Your idea is good about setting the price at 12,500. Just throw it out and see what they say and just creep up. You can keep nagging at them till they wanna give up. Also try and get them to throw in things to the car such as mudflaps or carpets or something anything. Like for instsance if they say some high 13's.. just start saying, well throw in those carpets, or spoiler, or flaps and you have yourself a deal. My dad has done with with great success.. You may not be getting the deal you want, but you will at least feel a little better getting away with something. Best idea is just not give up on it if they reject the offer, just keep on nagging and hopefully you will get your way, or come to an agreement on something
P.S. Certified Toyota's are jacked up in price! so i would really give up until its at least somewhat lower than that. They should give you some sort of deal, being that it is a 05

I thought 14995 was a high asking price for a used 2005 rolla. Being you can buy an '06 for 15k. I really will not pay anything in the high 14's nor would only pay less than 13k; The difference between this used and new is just too close... Any other thoughts? I appreciate the posts. First time dealing with a dealership
Also see how long this car has been on the Lot. They do not like them there over a month. You can use this to your advantage....it is better for them to "move" the car then for it to sit waiting for "their price".
Dead Inventory is a bad thing...no matter what business you are in...

i work at a toyota dealership in texas, and we sold an 05 corolla certified last week at $13,500. you have to remember that it is certified so you have the advantage with the 100,000 mile warranty already. i got my girl into a 05 certified corolla s with pwr pack and cruise, 9000 miles for 12000, but then again i am the used car inventory manager so i gave myself the car at cost. lmao what model is this one? they might try to show you kelly blue book cost but in that book it shows its worth a lil more than it is, ask them to show you n.a.d.a. book, then you'll be in the money.... and as posted earlier, i would look around to see how long it was on the lot.
the market on corolla's is high right now, the used ones are worth more than new ones when purchased at toyota lots due to the certification, i hate to stress that part but its a big plus!

I know the car has been on the lot for over a month and possibly 2. I test drove at the end of February.

I doubt that the used one's are worth more than the new ones. That is just retarded. Why would someone pay more for an '05 than an '06 unless they were smoking somthing funny. Reality=new cars are worth more than used cars certified or not
I purchased my '05 LE a few months ago for under 13k with 38k on the clock. It was by no means certified, but that's not an issue for me. The dealer tried to start me off at $15k for the car, but I told them straight faced that there's no way I'm paying the same price for a used car that I could buy brand new.
Yes if the price isnt what you want, the only thing you can do is reject it. Most of them time they like to get out the old year models though so they should be willing to strike you a deal. If not, and they dont sway from there original price. I would just sudjest getting an 06. I wasnt aware the price was that close. If could get that 05 rolla for alot less, I'd just buy an 06.
