Question 1989 Toyota Corolla SR5 Missing Bolt/thingy

Hi,
I have a Bolt, that came out of my 1989 Toyota Corolla SR5.
Carb, FWD 1.6 Manual trans.
USA, California Model.

It had come off something a couple years back, and I remember I found it while doing maintenance, but cannot remember where it went, But, I do remember finding it came off in the4 past and luckly found where it went, and put it back. But this time I have no clue where, and cannot remember where it belongs.

More info:
It came from something under the hood, on or around the engine. Possibly comes off during light maintenance, l ike when the air cleaner is taken off...

Pictures (link attached):

http://virtualairforce.byethost11.co...ota2/ulthm.htm

I cal it a bolt, but it has no threads, and seems to be traingular on one end like it fits into soemthing so it will not turn... has definte dark areas, and salso shiny areas like it fits into soemthing and is not real tight but maybe acts as a retainer, or 'stop' .

It is less than 1/4 size that of a 'AA' Battery.

Anyone have a clue what it fits into, drops, into?

for the life of me, I cannot find where it fits..

Thank you..

Question

yeah, a pin... actually, I ende dup having it back in my hands again, left over after I did sone recent carb work, but remember finding it a couple years back, and searched for the place it went, and found it, but that was 2 years ago, this time, I have it once again, and am unable to figure out where it belongs..

I thought I made a note about this very same pin, and thought I put this note ina safe place to tel me where it goes, if I ever misplace it, but I am unable to find the note I made telling me where it goes...

I am so puzzled.. it's not like me to have parts, extra, parts... I usually know where al parts go... this leaves me extrmemly puzzled..

looks like a rivet of some kind. the small end is probably plug welded, crimped, or fitted very tightly onto something and not intended to ever come off. if its been off a long time, i wouldnt worry about it too much. i doubt you can put it back in and fix it in place anyway, no offense.

safe place...i have lots of safe places. safe from me ever finding them again.

Question

It's defintely not a rivet.. its a Pin... I do remember this thing from a couple years back, it's large (relatively large) and heavy, for it's size.. I must have took something off and put it back on for some maintenance... I must have maybe turned something upside down...... maybe... the end looks like something holds it place, the triangular end .... dammit... I must be having severe memory problems..

I recommend you put the pin in a safe place, and if you have a "pin" problem later, you'll know where it is. The "safe place" I have always used is the glove compartment; this works fine for about six months then things start to rattle. By then, though, you realize all those pins and things must not have been necessary, and you can throw them away and start the cycle over.
