4a-fe wierd stuff

'92 corolla all-trac wagon. the motor jumps around quite a lot at idle, and I'm sure I needs at least one new motor mount but it also seems to run a little rough.
Checked the plugs and wires, and when i take off the third cylinder wire - nothing happens. All the other three make it drop and run like crap, but nothing changes with the third. The wire arcs fine and the plug is functioning. The injector is fine (checked resistance and get voltage on the connector too). I will do a compression check, but I'm waiting to borrow a tester that's long enough to get into the plug hole. Even with a burnt valve, i would think that it should affect the running condition somewhat when one cylinder is disabled...
Sorry to ramble but I'm at a real loss here . Could really use some help/ideas....
Cheers

Can you check the timing? Another thought is whether you can hear the injector work. If you put something like a short length of broom handle against the injectors and listen at the other end, they make a distinct sound when they fire. Let us know how the compression test comes out. This is interesting.

Do the mount first as this sounds like the prob...

Then a basic sevice
eg plugs , air fiter, fuel filter that sould take care of the prob

Check the resistance of the spark plug wire and see if its within spec.

Exclamation

I found that the cheap aftermarket plug wires suck and don't last long.... also a carb with a lot of mileson it and/or out of adjustment can cause the engine to dance and run like crap...

But, you don't give a full description of exactly how the engine runs,, under all conditions so I can't go on any more..

The engine mount behide the radiator is pron to breaking...try that!

If its busted it will only be obvious one removed!
Or get a mate to rev the engive or load it upo a little while watching
look for cracks/breaks in the rubber

Then take poly urethane mass (not the foam stuff) and fill the mount for solid Poly urethane mounts.
