This had to be exlained to me as well. If I make a mistake please correct me.

Visually the Trueno or gts (and sr5)... ae86.. has the flip lights. Where as the Levin...ae85... does not. both trueno and levin models can either be coupe or liftback. The gts has the 4age under the hood while the sr5 has the 3tc ..I think. again corrections are welcome. and then comes the whole red top, blue top business which I still know very little about. I'll let the people who know more about this continue......

I agree, go to club4ag.com

AE86 SR5 = 4ACs

redtop = small port non-tvis
bluetop = big port tvis

AFM redtops are found only on the last production year of AE92 GTS

Map redtops are found ONLY on a particular year of Geo Prizm GSi

forgot what year tho.

Well, AE92 (88-91) SR5 & GTS only came in coupe model, but you're right. The Levin has the regular headlights and the Trueno has the flip-ups.

With the AE86 SR5 & GTS you can get them in both hatch and coupe.

AE92 & AE86 GTS has the 4-AGE (big head 1.6 twin cam)
AE92 SR5 has the 4-AFE (Small 1.6 twin cam) not sure about the AE86 SR5

Where as the Levin...ae85
Wrong, both the trueno and levin are AE86's. the AE85 is the Hachi-go, the low perf. model that has the 4A-C sohc engine in it.

edit : i am dum

considering how hacki-roku = 86 in japanese
hachi-go = 85 in jpanese

however, in NA, the chassis code for an sr5 and a gts are both ae86, and the VIN shows ae88 for the gts and ae86 for the sr5.

chassis codes for japan are ae86 and ae85 for gts and sr5 respectively.

well.. here's some pics for you to see the difference between Levins and Truenos..

AE86 Trueno (pop up lights) and Levin

AE92 Levin

AE92 Trueno

up to 89 the Toyota Sprinter Trueno came with the same lights as our Toyota Corolla GTS (different bumpers though) and after that (90-91) they looked like this.....

notice how the front lenses got twice as big as the 88-89. :o

As for SR5 and GTS trims.. the GTS is more "optioned" than the SR5 models, and also sportier looking. Different engine, seats and inside trim, power options, etc..

Those do look good, but as far as I know you have to have the Japanses bumper to be able to put them on...
