I'm currenty swapping my dead engine out of my '87 corolla for a Japanese engine. The orginal engine is a 4A-LC and the new engine is a 3A-C. The new engine is from a tercel, but I've been told by several people that it should swap in with no issues. So far this is been true. It's probably nothing important, but I came across a part on the new engine that did not exist on the old engine and I don't know what to connect it to.
Description of the part:
It looks like a large diaphram with one vaccum connection. It has a metal arm that extends into the valve train area. The metal arm is connected to a bar that pivots a vane in each of the exhaust ports.
The part was bolded onto the side of the head next to a coolant port. The old engine didn't even have holes for this thing.
BTW, it looks damaged-- the vaccum port is busted off. Doesn't look cheap. Maybe I can ignore this thing?
What the heck is it?
