1997 corolla How can I tell if I have a 1.6 or 1.8 engine size?

A: Look at the label under the hood, it should say 1.6L or 1.8L but if the motor has been swapped....

B: Look on the side of the motor itself, there should be a sticker on the motor saying 4AFE for 1.6L or 7AFE for 1.8L

Even simpler - if you have an auto and there is an overdrive button on the shifter it's a 1.8. If there's no overdrive button on the shifter it's 1.6.

Easiest by far you dont even have to open the hood. jsut get in the car. IS it a DX, if so then it is the 1.8 also. That was the only engine offered in the DX.

Yeah, but it could have the DX badge and have had the engine swapped, or someone could've taken off the DX badge.
