USA offset range for 2002 corolla

whats the ideal offset range for a 2002 corolla?

I'm looking to put some 195/55 tires on a 15 inch rim for my 2002 corolla.

speaking of tires, what summer tires would you recommend? I have stock suspension so dont need anything amazing. what I do want are summer specific tires.

So far web results are showing me the Sumitomo HTR 200, Yokahama AVS ES100, Kumho ECSTA SPT and BFGoodrich g-Force sport as decent, inexpensive summer tires.

the search thing didnt work to good. i tried.

going to answer my own post for the sake of anyone else looking for the same info.

8th generation corolla is 38-45mm offset
9th generation corolla is 35-45mm offset

for 2002 the stock steel rim is 14inches by 5.5 inches wide. it's a 4 bolt x100 pattern.

I need shocks, but seeing how they need to remove the whole strut anyway, im going to do the coils too. most people recommend KYB GR2 shocks with eibach coils. it tightens up the car compared to stock. lower the ride by about an inch too.

I'm possibly going to get sway bars too if they aren't overly expensive. any suggestions for sway bars out there?

Is the tire rubbing at all? what size tire do you have anyway?

tirerack recomends 195/55-15 for a fifteen inch rim, which is what im looking for.

i dont want to go any lower profile then that though. lots of potholes around here and i allways seem to catch 1-2 every year.

what about suspension. im looking into tokico or KYB GR2 shocks, possibly with eibach springs. I dont want to drop more then 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

I figure spending a couple thousand on my used perfectly fine car is better then dropping loads on a new vehicle. plus i killed my shocks and tires

yeah I was reading your posts on corolla custumz to get ideas. at this point im leaning towards tokico struts, not sure about the springs though. will most likely get tokico springs to go with the strut, but i dont want more then a 1/2 inch drop. its looking like i will need to go 1 1/2 inch drop though.

BTW, here are the recommended rim to tire size ratios. available choices might force me to go with a 16 inch rim. wont have to twist my rubber arm too hard though :-) I'm mostly worried the car wont have power to crank the big wheels so well.

195/55R15
205/45R16
205/40R17
215/35R18

Im learning this myself so am not one to ask lol. with that said, we both have 8th generation corolla's so 38-45mm is the offset range.

with 14 inch rims I cant imagine you will have much trouble with rubing. the people who complain about rubing probably have like 17+ inch rims and have gone wider then a 205 tire and/or have dropped the car like 2 inchs. if you drop more then 2inchs you will need a camber kit, or so I hear.

Q. Do I need camber kits if I lower my car?
A. Whenever you lower a car with shorter springs, it creates negative camber. This has some benefits for handling but can cause the tires to wear more towards the inside instead of right down the middle. Many cars do not have enough adjustment to return the camber to original factory specifications. On most cars, if the lowering effect is 25mm to 35mm, and you keep the tires well rotated, you should get the full life expectancy of the tires even with the negative camber. Otherwise camber adjustment kits can be purchased for many applications that make it possible to adjust the camber closer to the original specifications.

I just read the above at http://www.shox.com/ looks like you need the camber kit even with a minimal drop.

yeah, your just barely within the tolerance range 1.3 inch is 35mm. If i were you I would pay the 50 bux for the camber kit to be safe.

the camber kit is to prevent tire wear and isn't bout tire rub, but seems you got that.
