2000 1.8L engine overheating

A friend has a 2000 Corolla with 1.8L engine. The car is overheating because the cooling fans on the radiator will not come on. We wired the fans straight to the battery to check them and they worked fine. All of the fuses also appear to be okay as well. Does anyone know how the fans are activated? I would assume that there is a sensor on the block that possibly activates a relay. Is this correct? If so, where is the location of these parts. All help is welcomed.

Grace and peace,

Robert K

Its not overheating because the fans don't come ON, its overheating becasue either A. your thermostat is dead and stuck and therefore the temp sensor doesn't get the right temp reading to turn the fans on, OR B. your temp sensor is dead and of course that's the reason why the fans don't come ON, because the temp sensor is not triggering them.

If you hard wire the fans on like you said you have, does it overheat, try that out.
If it still overheats then your themostat is stuffed, if its doesn't overheat then the thermo switch or fan wiring is broken.

Try that and let us know what happened. Also you might want to check your water pump.
