Question Can I drop in a 4AGE in my AE86 SR5 without changing the bellhousing??

OK, I need to drop something back in my 86 SR5 to get better mileage than my V8 Dodge Truck. It currently has a blown 4A motor. Can I drop in 4AGE without changing the bellhosing?? If not why? Thanks

The bell housing will bolt up no problem, however the clutch/flywheel combination may cause some problems. One solution is to use a 4age flywheel with a 4age pressure plate and the 3a/4a clutch plate.

You may also run into problems with the thrust bearing and spigot bearing.

OK, Thanks I have a 4AGZE Complete motor from a MR2 that I was planning on installing later after some mods were done but with Gas shooting through the roof I think it has now become later.

It has the fly wheel and clutch so I should be able to drop that in the whole with out any problems, right? I mean that in as it will slip into the bellhousing? The other stuff like wiring and plumbing I will do a Search for. My main concern is that I don't want to have to track down a GT-S Bellhousing if it is not really required.

Thanks

You won't fit a gze clutch/flywheel into a k50 (I assume thats what you have) or even a t50 (gts box). I assumed you were talking about a n/a gze.

If you want to run the big clutch off a gze I would recomend looking at fitting a W series box, from a supra/celica. You will need a custom bellhouseing for this.

OH...I see.. OK. Thanks. ....Hmmm.. Would a 20v Flywheel and clutch pack work?? I have those items just sitting off on the side as well?? Or am I going to be in the same boat? By this of course I mean the 20v clutch stuff on the GZE?? Also this is a JDM MR2 GZE Motor I have. Thanks again.

the SR5s in North America use T50 (M/T) transmission as well. same as the GT-S but some said that the only difference is the placement of the slave clutch cylinder. if it's A/T it uses A40D tranny.

But doesn't the "z" mean supercharged and "t" mean turbo? The naturally aspirated(n/a) motor is just a 4age

Yes it does, but could you point out where it says that in his original post.

@micro214: Thats cool, the crappy ae85/6's we got here ran a 3a with a k50 box. Out of interest what rear end do you sr5s have.

@toyloco: If you running a T50 gearbox I would say, use a n/a 4age flywheel and clutch plate, and find an aftermarket pressure plate with a higher clamping force. (4agze's make a heap more torque and will spin a 4age clutch). That should run sweet.

Thanks. I am about to buy a Basket Case GT-S that was used for parts and painted Primer Black... .. The Engine Harness, Fenders, Head light Covers and interior have all been removed for another car but it still has the Motor (Unsure if it good or not), Tranny (not sure if this is good either), Rearend (w/o LSD ..) and Suspension (Springs have been cut).

I figure I will use the Tranny from that (If it is good) as well as the Flywheel from the Motor. I was just offered this today and was very excited to say the least .

I think I need the Interior Wiring Harness and Instrument Cluster to patch in the 4AGZE?? I had been looking for a GT-S (Like who hasn't?) for doing the swap in the future but it seems things need to happen now. So I will do the Next best thing to having the GT-S that I want. Make a SR-GT With Boost..

Thanks for all the help. I hope this goes together before the Gas hits 3.50 around here.
