I only once helped a friend fix such a problem on the driver's door, so I can't tell you much from memory. You need to get a service manual so you see exactly what parts are involved. In our case, a number of the screws had fallen out but they were all lying along the bottom of the door. We took the glass out by sliding it up. We took the machanism out, cleaned and lubed it and put it back the way it was supposed to be. We put the glass back in and it worked. There are enough access holes cut into the door to do this work if you don't have huge hands.
