'94 7A-FE Drain Plug

My Dad has been changing my oil for the past 30,000 miles that I have had my car and just this weekend mentioned to me that the oil drain plug has no gasket on it, like my mom's avalon and both our previa's do. Was this normal for my 1.8L engine, or did Jiffy Lube (the only place the previous owner ever took the car in 110,000 miles) lose it at some point?

He has been putting on this tube of gasket sealer he has and there has never been a problem with it leaking, but he requested that I ask the experts.

Thanks
