Re: Adding a supercharger

You will need to decide with what supercharger to use first, SC12, SC14, Eaton, Lysholm, etc... because you can't really properly plan out your fuelling requirements, custom bracket placement, SC inlet/outlet design, intercooler core size, pipe diameter and so on, until this has been determined at the very minimum.

IMHO, turbocharging a 20v is much more realistic of an option.

I dropped an MR2 supercharger into my 89 corolla 4age.
All I had to do was move the alternator underneath.

Works well, but if you are considering running a pulley with anything more than 5psi boost learn from my mistake ... you should consider larger injectors and a programmable efi module. Check out sdsefi.com I used to know the owner when he road raced at the local track, he never lost, and he has a good product.

I didn't do this originally and I now have a 400 dollar paperweight in the form of a piston sitting on my desk. (piston $90 rebuild kit $310.

I am gonna try something unique this summer and switch the whole thing over to propane and see what I can do with it. Should if nothing else make a one of a kind.

Good find, but the guy uses a GZE instead of a 20v , I think he made a good choice since the 20v isn't made for forced induction.

20v heads do flow better.

For street use with forced induction I don't think there will be much difference because you can always compensate with more boost. The limiting factors on the street will wind up being the starting compression, lower is better, and the quality of the local fuel. Up until I lost that piston <my fault for running stock injectors and ecu> I ran with stock pistons and about 8psi boost and got about 160 hp. Enough to beat most cars I came across. I think if I had the proper setup (better intercooler, water injection, programmable ECU, and larger injectors) I could have been nearer to 180 hp. I also would have saved my piston. Any more HP and I would need lower compression pistons and would seriously shorten the life span of the engine bearings and rod end caps. Enough to warrant a rebuild every few months instead of every year. I have a heavy foot and would probably be full into it more often then I would need to which also doesn't help the engine life heh.

yes you can.

turbo 20v would be my option.

given the amount of work and the gains provided, a sc 20v seems like a waste.
