I believe the axle housing is the same, but all the stuff inside is different.. the axles, diff, etc..

i could be wrong about that tho, but that's what i remember

yes the axel will fit. Ken, IMO, with the amount of time and money that will be spent on do a conversion, you'd be better off waiting and finding a mint gts.

SR5 rear end components are completly different from GT-S ones. The axles are smaller in diameter (tooth picks) and the diff will also be smaller...not to mention that the SR5 has drum brakes in the rear.

There are differences in the 85 and 86/87 GT-S axles as well, so you'd have to be sure to use them with the corresponding GT-S diff.
