1995 Corolla engine check light

Hello,

My engine check light has been on for a some time now. It's a 95, so I don't think you can hook up an OBC device and read out the error code for the engine check light problem. Is my only alternative to take it to a toyota dealer to figure out the problem?

thanks,
Js

I think you can read codes by bridging terminals in the diagnostic box and looking at the overdrive and check engine lights flashing.

It's just not as convenient as an OBD II diagnosis.

Codes can be found in a Haynes repair manual, or probably on the internet.

if its OBD1 jumper TE1 and E1 (99% sure) then turn the car to acc and the light will flash the codes like

-*-*-*-------*-*-*-*-* = code 35

be sure its a OBD1 if your gonna do this as it could do damage to OBD2
