I got a few questions for you Corolla guys...

OK so just so you know I know NOTHING for the most part about Corollas... However I have a chance to buy and flip (Fix up and resell) a 88 Corolla. The thing is a piece of junk right now.

I can get it for real cheap... but I'm curious if it'd be worth it. I work on show cars giving custom paint jobs and exterior and interior work.

So some of the things I'm trying to find out is...

- What would you Corolla guys look for in a show car that would make you be like nice ride.

- What kind of aero kits are availible for the 88?
(I know there is one from Erebuni kit but are there others?)

-- Is there a body kit or at least a front bumper that is from a diffrent car that fits snuggly to the 88 front end?

- Also what is the stock inline 4 engin that comes in a 88?

- What kind of mods are common in a car like this?

So thanks for helping me out guys. I know if it was a 84-87 it'd be easier... Esspecialy if it was a AE86. Oh well. thanks anyways!

OK so I've been reading around and educating myself some more about the 88... I got more questions...

Is the 88 considered a AE92?

I've found spots saying 88-92 are AE92s and some say 89-92 are... which is it?

I'm sure I'll have more questions later. Thanks again!

88-92's are ae92's

if it isn't a GTS, it isn't worth it

not true. sr5's are going for a decent price right now. it might also be a sedan though. there are a few body kits I have come across for the ae92. there are 3 different styles of stock for bumpers and marker lights. Zenki, Kouki, and the US style. there are 2 different engines for the ae92 for 1988. the 4af and the 4age. if it's an sr5 or a sedan it's the 4af, unless it was swapped. If it's a gts it will have the 4age. The 4af is more torquy then the 4age for the power it puts out so if your looking for torque turn the 4af if your looking for hp go for 4age. there are different engines that are common mods for an ae92. 1988 would have the big port 4age and 1990 up has the small port. difference in power come with that and the lack of tvis on the small port. there's also the 4agze (super charged 4age with stronger internals) and the 20v 4age's the silver top and the black top's.
the 4af is carbed and some will go to the 4afe (has efi) which came out in the sr5 and sedans mid 1989.
you can do camshafts pistions, just about anything for internals if your willing to put the money into it (which I don't think you want to since you spoke of selling it). turbo is another option.
other mods people do are suspension's. people tend to go for the gts suspension because it's beefier and stiffer stock than the suspension the sedan and the sr5 share. you can also change the springs and struts which is another VERY common mod with the ae92's

I think it's nice they are less common than civics

and I don't feel like typing anymore

put a nice stereo system in their with a disk changer, silverstar headlights, white guage cluster (like the new rollas have), new suspension, sport seats, short throw shifter if its a manual, turbo the engine, new oil and stuff.

and why not keep it for yourself?

apparently you guys don't understand the meaning of "flip"...

if he finds a car that's a junker and pays $100 for.... then puts another $2,000 into the car (total of $2100) then the person would expect to get the $2100 + the costs of labor and advertising.... If he's talking about show car stuff, i doubt anyone would buy a highly showed up sr5 for anything over $2,000 or so....

I say GTS because there's much more room for easy performance upgrades, a better platform for suspension work, and better interior and some nicer exterior stuff..... it would be an *easier* car for him to flip

Thanks guys for the help and suggestions...

You all were very helpful. I've been looking around on the web and doing some estimating. I'm still not sure what all I'll do but you guys sure gave me some good ideas.

I also just found a 87 Supra I'm thinking about for myself... I'll keep you all updated on how the project goes.

Thanks again!

(The guys on this forum are great!)

sure.. if you buy it for say $100, then you put $500 into it to make it run and then you're able to sell it for $1000-1500 I would do it.. don't expect to get anything more out of it though.
