when i got my car the radio was visiously hacked out of the car with the harness, so i had to go thru the same thing you are.

i just installed a 1988 corolla radio into a 1986 corolla. the radio powers up, so the power/ground wires were correct. however, the speakers dont output any sound.

also, the scan function came up with correct stations, so the antenna is ok.

so if you get any other info send it my way please? thanks.

Dude, just pull off your speaker panels and look.

but if you don't want to do that, I think the fronts in mine were pink/purple and blue/seafoam. I don't recall which were left or right, but.. yeah. The lighter of the pair should be the positive terminal.

no, there is a much easier way to figure out stereo speakers
all u need is an AA battery, jus test the wires with it and the right ones make a scratching sound in that speaker, the wires correct positive/negative by itself.
