HI guys from what i've seen here ther is alot of miths abut the all trax corollas, iwant to end this for all time as a 4wd corolla with a good engine will be a road rocket on a budget!
This is what i know from the model avalible in australia..it is called an AE95 and is only availible as a wagon.
The wagon is built in Japan and imported and sold by toyota australia
All other types are built here in victoria..Melbourne Australia (ALtona,Dandenong) and are called an AE92 front drive only
Years built are approx 88-95 for wagon and 88-?? for sedan hatch liftback
the wagon has 4afe efi 77 KW,others had 4afe carb+efi,4age efi n/a (100KW)
Wagon only had front disk (vented) and rear drums
Others had front disks (non vented/ vented) rear drums/ disks(mod dependent)
My 20v silver top alltrak has had a hard life with no breaks in the drivline with is std!
A.all trax is full time 4wd with a cetre diff lock (button on the dash)
b.The rear diff is solid eg (old schoool) no lsd eaither.
c. Any 4AGE will fit (except the 4AGZE) the charger sits were the centre diff goes!
d.Only all trak gear boxes will work..The housing is different for the centre diff.
e.Auto and manual are avalible
f.you can keep your current box..but need the flywheel, clutch..torqu verter of the doner motor
g.You can use levin brakes.master, booster, disks calipers, but leave the proportioning valve std...
h.Wher the cetre diff bolts to the block..4 bolts...one needs to be ground back approx 1 cm!
Can use an angle grinder with out stress probs....20,000k's on mine(hard)
I.need the bottom bell housing cover off the doner moter
J.All water system hoses bolt up..fact....
K.late model p/s will only just clear the diff lock vac unit..eg 101 into 95 works
l.Under good power the vac unit will tap the power steering rack...no damage but a good knock!
m.A/C lines are diff.
o. U will need to spice the efi harness
p.Get a good clutch plate as its the weakest link..mine didnt break but it stinks a bit after a hard run as it has to put all that power to 4 wheels...
q.Throotle pedal and cable need to be from doner motor car..(bolt in)
r.need fuel line from doner motor(will fit std efi system)..pump and lines are fine
s.only run 98 octane plus
t.Need steel pipe line for brake vac...it bolts on and runs the rubber vac line to the quad throttles..(its about 1.5 foot long and sits on the fire wall!
u.A strut brace will fit...drill holes in the fire wall(there are marks for one)and use the threads from the front clip fire wall..cut them out and place behind the fire wall in the wiper well to make a sandwich....works good with no need to get a welder but you can if ya want to.
v.Tie rod ends are interchangable between Ae92 Ae101 if you want to use the whole hub assemble and so are the ball joints..!(only if you use the bottom swing arm from the 101)
You can use a 101 steering colum and power sterring with the folowing mods..
Cut the ignition off the colum....hack saw
replace with yours and use to threaded rods with a nut on each end...use lock tight glue
the dash will need a quick trim to fit but will look std once fitted
The down side is u loose the steeribg lock (big deal)
Now back to the motor.....
Our wagons come with an engine oil cooler so to fit it to a 20v u need to use you std sump with the take off line and the std oil filtter plate..its a straight swap!
Hope this helps
Well...hmmm....mines differs greatly from yours....Japan-made AE92 1991 rolla wagon...5 speed 4AFE with little over 34K miles.
Apparently, the wagons in america did not come with a passenger side mirror..mines was ordered with one from the previous owner.
The wagons in america didnt come with a stereo either, but was prewired for a stereo and speakers....The previous owner added a tape deck and factory speakers....also, these wagons were meant to have 5" speakers in the back (hence the small compartments with the little trap doors ) you can put speakers back there ( im putting small 8"subs, and 6x9's in the hatch cover).
i think that is about it, i want to mod the 4Afe to make it have more power...but from what i understand, there isnt much for the 4AFE-nor is there parts for the trans (STS, hi-perf clutch)
well, i wont be getting rid of the wagon for a LONG time....so ill be here for a while!
a.basic..no tacho.stereo front speakers only,wind windows,man mirrors,13inch rims
b.sr5 version full electtrics and 14 inch rims alloys..4 speaker stereo........
Just a note we had an option of a sorage coparment in the rear roof section in between the speakers..
I would reconmend 4inch speakers alround and a removable sub box for bass.....
My car started as a base model so i have no wires in the back for speakers but i'll fix that asap.....if u mount a sub in ther you might find it does'nt work very well as thers no area behide it and the mounts are pretty pissy......go for a head unit that supprts a sub control and you'll never look back as you can have good sound and take out the sub if ya need a load in the bac..!
So just to make sure, a 20V black top would fit into my 1988 Toyota Corolla All-Trac Wagon?? Would the transmission from the black top fit as well? If not the original 4AFE trans would couple to the 20V??
Thanks.
All 4ages except the ze as above! ....can only use a 4wd box ..
ANy box will fit but u will have to lose the 4wd!!!! no thanks!
One ideal i have witch may work is use the 4wd casing and put in the guts of the levin box as this come with better ratios! (close ratio) (dont change the front diff ratio!)
As above Asabove as above!!!!!!!! sorry to be rude but it took awhile to type,,lol
Just remembered..you allso need to keep the origanal engine mounts!!!
The only issue with this is you need to trim up the cam belt covers to suit..
The rolla wagon in australia is acual a japan made carib wagon
i have seen them as new as 2001 mdles and they run a 4afe,7afe,and a deisil..
They come in fwd and 4wd in japan...the main difference between the jap rolla and the carib is the rear part of the body work (different shell)...and trim.... the floor pans are different between 2wd and 4wd
So far i've worked out american/canadian...hawai..etc only got an all trax in the ae92
Is this right....??????
The wagons are the genuan corrollas also........
AUstralia got ..the wagon in an ae92 version 4wd only buts its a carib! rebadged!!
the rest of our rollas are 2wd and genuan rollas...as in world rolla)?
We do have a wagon back again in the newer stuff as a fwd and its also a gen rolla
My AE95 was a japanese import but they sold them new here in New Zealand ( i put idaho in my profile for the street-cred).
I've seen a 1983 4wd drive carib and i think that might be as far back as they go.
I put 6 by 6 inch speakers in those little rear hatch doors. 6 by 9s don't quite fit. With the back door open, sound gets into the outdoors very clearly. I just stuck with the 4 inchs in the dash, and they're not too bad, but i had wanted to put 6 inchs in the doors, but no room.
I wondered about diff-lock for a while then someone on this forum answered my question about when you can use diff lock, he said his manual said it could be used at highway speeds.
Even pushing 4 wheels, the 4AFE gets me 7l per 100km, or 38 mpg, which is as good as my 2WD Honda Accord used to get.
The tercel was called a carib in japan! the diff lock can be used at speed only is recomended for loose or slippery surfaces....6 inch speakers will fit in the doors but need a raiser plate.
the rear of the wagon came with a full solid parcel shelf(like the liftback!) it will take speakers if not overly high powered of any size.........
Hmm.. I just recently got mine. '89 Alltrac 4Dr Sedan. Been trying to look up more information on it. Bought it b/c mileage was low and engine still runs great. Looks like all you folks are overseas. Haha.. am I all alone here?
I hope you put in more information about the car. I'm curious what I can do to it. Will use it primarily for easy driving. Would like to give it more power to get over hills.
P.S. the electrical power cables in front of the radiator scared the crap out of me. I had no idea what they were for!
Got an '89 AE95 in Western Australia, just has a jap import 4afe put in after 400K klms. Gearbox needed a new syncro in fith but other than that there has been no issues till the engine blew a head and some minor wheel bearing damage (not bad for the high klms's).
I've had a lot of trouble finding a manual for this model, anyone with a PDF would be helpfull!
I am about to change the steering rack internal bush to stop a repeat of the recent wheel bearing damage, dam things are expensive.
Anyone ever changed a internal Steering Rack Bush??
I want to try to get the old bush out and replaced without removing the entire rack, not sure if it is possible, but will give it a try.
From experiance over a number of years, these cars can handle the snow, sand and the occassional creek crossing (just be careful to let the brake disks cool off - lernt the wrong way!).
i have seen corolla sr5 wagons here in america , but not sedans.....i want a sedan ...but the wagons are all sr5 so that means lesser engine...lesser everything
