Question After Market Ignition for a 4AGE Propane Powered 4age..

I heard about these guys in Kentucy I believe, that were running 22R and 20R motors on propane in their turcks to get some better economy. Well being a Fellow Toyota Diehard.... I started thinking about it and have this rebuilt Red Top 4AGE I was going to use as soon as I could find a good AE92 GT-S donor car but Now I got to thinking about this Propane thing. $1.99 a Gal vs. $3.15 a Gal (87 Oct).....

I have a 86 SR5 with a Bad 4A motor (#1 piston is now a 2 piece desk trophy) and have been kicking around the idea of how to put it back on the road.

So I want to put the Red top in my sr5 and run it on Propane. I got the Intake part handled along with a full Propane kit. Here is the question...

I researched this site and found out I should use a MSD 6AL...

How do I get a MSD 6AL to work with a red top Distributor? And I read I will need an ignition amplifier that has the ability to adjust the ignition timing?? What exactly is that and has anyone installed an aftermarket Ignition on there 4AGE when they went with carbs??

This is not going to be in anyway a Road Rocket or Track Drifter...Just a Cheap cheap form of getting around until this over inflatted gas price BS comes down (if it ever does??).

Thanks

I have seen someone on the board that did the conversion.. I can't remember his name on the board, but he was from somewhere in Alberta Canada. I believe it was a 4AGE and he was either in the process of, or had already done the conversion.

As for MSD ignition, I have seen a Smallport with MSD ignition, not sure how it was done but the car worked fine.

Here we go.. a quick search and I found him.. rezzle from Calgary Alberta, Canada. He did a propane conversion on his 4AGZE.

Yep, I seen that thread as well... I know there has to be something on TN that discusses the Topic more indepth but I have yet to find anything yet mentioning the details of the installation. I know of one guy that put a carb based 4age in a 71-72 Celica but I haven't run acrossed him to ask how he set up the ignition.
