interior light wiring

i have some interior led's that i want to install on my 01 corolla and i want them to function just like my dome light. the lights never came with any reall instructions on how to install them except that the red and a white wires go to the power source and the black is grounded. i am going to add a spdt switch to all this so i have on/off/door just like the dome light switch. my main problem is the connecting of the switch. i know that one will go to the door trigger, i think another to ground, and i have no clue about the thrid conncetion on the switch. has anyone done this or have an understanding of this? please help me, out thanks.

this is what I am thinking...

RED - constant 12v

WHITE - Door Trigger

BLACK - Ground

Just make sure what the door trigger is looking for to turn on and off the led lights, the corolla has a negative trigger just make sure it is the same on the led light and if not you can always change the polarity with a standard relay...

thanks for the help, but i figured it out. This is what i am going to do:
-Connect the red wire from the led to a +12v constant power wire
-Get an spdt toggle switch with an off in the centre position. (on-off-on)
-Connect the led's ground wire to the centre terminal of the switch.
-Connect a chasis ground wire to the left terminal of the switch (This will be the on position)
-Connect the factory wire for the door trigger, which is a red/white(-) wire, to the right terminal of the switch. (this position will activate the light when the door is open)

hopefully this will work.

That should work, as the door trigger is ground. I've actually done this setup in a different way with the passenger side as a map light as well. So you have a map light on the passenger side, a master that turns both ON and a switch that will turn both on upon the door opening.

This is as simple as putting a relay inline with the drivers side LED, attaching the positive side of the magnet to a constant power source and the negative to the door switch...
