Holy crap - Amazing gas mileage!!!

How about this - I was driving to beach last week on the east coast in South Carolina. I did an average speed of like 90 or 95 because I was in a huge hurry. I figured my gas mileage would be shot because I was running like 3200 rpm on the highway the whole way there. But to my amazement, the next time I filled up and checked my mileage - I GOT 36 mpg at 95 mph!!!! Thats crazy because normally anything or 65 or so on any other car drastically lowers your mileage!! YAY FOR MY TOYOTA!!!

Do you have larger tires than stoc? Just wondering because 95 mph should give you you more than 3200 rpms unless there is something different about a 2003 automatic le and a 2005 trd le.

My 94 also gets the same mileage no matter how fast I drive. I have been trying to keep it around 70 lately tho because i'm prone to drive much more agressively when I go faster, and thats the only thing that hurts my mileage. If I go steady at 85 without driving like an ass I'll get the same mileage that I do at 70.

On a related note, driving main back roads (rolling hills) at about 50 MPH, my car has hit 42 MPG, but only on that stretch of road and if I use the hills to my advantage.

Years ago, on a road trip I got 40 mpg, running mobile 1 5-30 in my 96 corolla 1.8 auto, going 85 mpg with no stops between gas stations. Now it has 167k and drives like it has 60k on it, love it.

I know how you feel... I actually get better mialage at 125km/h (3k revs) in my Pulsar than i do at the 110km/h speed limit. Too bad our cops are Nazis when it comes to speeding... Corolla is the same... Will get about 550km to a 50L tank at 110 or about 650km to a 50L tank at 130...

gas mileage

I went on a trip to Philadelphia which is about 380 miles from me. I have a 2004 5 speed with synthetic oil. I filled up my tank again in Philadelphia and it showed my car got 47 miles per gallon. I had driven slower than the 65 miles speed limit. I think I drove about 60 mile an hour and used my cruise control. On the drive back to Pittsburgh I was anxious to get home so I drove 65-70 miles per hour and got only about 45 miles per gallon. Now that I am back to my city driving all the time I am only getting in the 30's.

Most engines operate at peak effieciency when they are running at peak torque.
Which is about 122 ft-lbs @ 4400 rpm for the latest Corolla.
