Australia headers for bob!

ok we all know header are a good thing for the exhaust system....
but what will fit what.......

eg will a 4afe header fit a 4age and vice versa..im not worried about the port size as long as the headers are larger and use a simular gasket..

A good q. is are the head hieghts the same or will a custom exhaust be needed to bolt up?

Well i hope i started a good thread that will deal with this issue as we all cant afford aftermarket headers or exhausts but a second hand performance unit might help at a good price! (if it fits)

thanks ........

To answer these questions. A 4A-FE Header will not fit on a 4A-GE head. I have had and have tried both on each other. Not only are the port sizes different (You said you dont care about that, but it's a factor) there are some other issues.

The Exaust gaskets are a different shape. This could be gotten around - but the gaskets will need to be metal, as the heatwill simply burn a paper gasket.

The bolts are in different spots - this is oviously a big difference, as you will need to modify the blt holes to get the header on. This could cause leaks from the manifold.

The GE Ports are also bigger as they need to breathe better, so trying to stick an FE header (yes - these do exist) on there will only cause a bottle neck.

The other question youasked that needs answering i am only half certain about. This is the one about the angle of the heads. I cannot speak for anything other than the 20v, but i found that when installing these headers on a car that previously had an FE in there, the pipe (including the flex, Cat and flange) was actually shorter, and sit in a slightly different spot. This makes the need for a custom setup a neccesity as the headers are also 2.25" and stock it 1.75". The height and angle of the heads are the same tho.

So in conclusion, i guess, NO - THE HEADERS ARE NOT CROSS COMPATIBLE.

For 4A-FE Headers - Contact Hi-Tech Headers in Sydney, Australia (google it). This is where i got mine from.

There are plenty of 4A-GE headers out there, fin the one that you want...

a 7afe header will fit a 4afe header as it is taller due to a longer block

however, a 4afe header will NOT clear the 7afe's oil pan.....

a 4age header won't fit either a 7a or 4afe..... cause they suck (yes, i'm drunk)
