Can't get something right (4AFE)

Alright, here's the low down. At 210,000 miles my corolla blew the head gasket, nice white smoke (it didn't overheat). So I changed the head gasket, and now I cannot get the car to run. I double checked the timing belt and the camshaft alighnment. The distributor is pointing at number 1 at TDC, and everything looks to be right. With the distributor turned completely to the back of the car it'll sputter for a second or so but that's it. It's really frustrating.

I torqued the bolts to the correct ft-lbs in the right order, and cleaned everything that needed to be. The timing belt and cams are correct. I just tried new plugs and it made no diffrence. The car ran good before even with the blown gasket. It's a 1990 also.

You installed both cam shafts correctly? Sounds like you cam tming is off. Try to see if you got compression. If not, your cams are way off. I believe you align the crank and cam pulleys correctly? Check all electrical connections. I think there is a gound on the intake manifold. Its ground for the ECU. I didn't tight the bolt once and had lots of fun finding that one.

the timing might be off a little, double check everything
how did you torque them... you should go over the pattern a couple times

The cams are in right, the marks line up perfectly with eachother. The timing belt is also right and it's not the first time I've done that. I torqued the head bolts in the pattern in steps of 10ft-lbs. Checked that ground and it's tight. Just another thing, one of the exhaust maniflod studs broke when I was taking it off, so it's not hooked up right now. I don't believe that the oxygen sensor would cause this problem though. When I just went out I got it to rev once before dying with the distributor rotated fully clockwise, so it getting fuel and spark. I also took the valve cover off and checked the timing belt alignment, all valves are closed on #1, the distributor is pointing at #1, and #1 is at TDC.

Ok, I went to a U-Pull it today and checked out a motor exactly like mine. Took the valve cover off and the distributor cap and aligned the timing sprocket to 12 o'clock. Everything looked the exact same as mine. So if it's not internal in the engine, what else could cause this behavior?

I know it has some, I guess I'll check every plug though.

Every plug is getting spark. I tried to see if it was throwing any codes but the light just blinked, no pauses.

Alright! I got it started. All I did was charge the battery a little, clock the distributor fully clockwise, replace a missing crush washer I found in the cold start injector system, and give it a little gas. I don't know what actually worked, but I'm happy now. Runs good with no smoke at all. I timed it but still need to fix a few odds and ends before getting it back on the road.
