what is the highest reving engine for our toyotas? is it one of the 20v?? the bluetop? redtops? i remember somebody said one of the 4age can be made to rev over 10k!! so whats the best high reving toyota engine?? one of the 4age???
Let me clear a misconception. make an engine rev higher does not mean more power whatsoever. An engine has to be purpose built to produce usable power and torque at very high rpms. Any engine with extensive modified internals can be built up to handle revs, but it would not mean much once the usable power is tested at super high revs.
2ZZ-GE is potentially the highest revving engine developed by Toyota so far and the only Toyota engine where valve lift is employed both on the intake and exhaust cam, but it would not be the last high revving engine Toyota will ever built. It will be a part of the supercar exotic Lexus LF-A V10.
Stated in a technical development document I read, when the 2ZZ GE was built by Yamaha, the pre-production prototype was tested with rpms up to 12000 rpm and it was able to handle it without any problems. However, with stock internals in the Toyota production 2ZZ GE, it was toned down to 8400 rpm rev limit and without rev limiter it can handle revs up to 8600 rpm without changing any internals. Anything beyond 8600 rpm will cause valve float and bent rockers etc. With modified internals (using the stroker kit available), pistons, valves and 13:0:1 compression ratio, it can rev up to ~11000 rpm (ofcourse, very high Octane usage is mandatory with the stroker kit).
p.s. Here in my city, a guy is building a 2ZZ-GE engine swap in his imported MR-S with the goal of making it rev up to 13000 rpm while using a turbocharger as well.

he said 4age? so I would assume he's talking about the trd 20v engine that you can build to rev to 11000 rpm. You don't want something like that for the street. Would be a pain to drive and costly to keep going with fuel and even oil changes....
plus costly to build
the blacktop is the highest reving 4age stock, correct? due to the lighter internals it would be able to rev higher than the silvertop. unless they rev the same
thanks for the replies guys, actually i was asking two questions, what toyota engine can be made to rev the highest, and what 4age can be made to rev the highest, thanks for the replies, keep them coming!
oh yea, and i mean engines in production, not F1 engines, 4 banger would be nice...
yea but there is one key thing about the formula atlantic engine... it's a race engine. if it survies 1 race then they did great. Would get a rebuild all the time :p
yeah but it still rev's high he never said any thing about streetable. and yeah that formula atlantic engine is crazy nice carbonfiber individual throttle bodies
formula atlantic was the 16 v
the trd race engine was the 20v silver top
and rice... if I had an engine that could go to 11000 rpm thats where it would be hitting all the time lol
I have an engine that's redline is 6300 and I surpass that all the time :p
the 20v head configaration while producing a fraction more power in race trim than a 16 valve it users more fuel per hp produced hence you dont see any full on racing cars with a 5 valve per pot setup..(more fuel stops...)i have read that a 20v with head work and a std bottom end can handle 105000rpm with out to much reliability issues..but i dont mean it'll do 100,000 miles...lol
yes but you can make the 20v still with parts, and group b... I thought it was called group A
you can still buy the trd parts needed to make the 11000 rpm 20v engine
the only way you could get the group a engine complete was if it was givin to you. and you needed to be a famous driver for that...
thats why in intial d bunta gets it from the drift king. Because in real life he was givin one.
