I rinse mine down, simple green it, take a cloth and clean what I can reach, take an old tooth brush and get in the little cracks (whatever I cant reach with cloth simple green takes care of anyway) then rinse and wipe clean with towel.

Why don't you just take it off and clean it up right or take it off and get it painted/chromed or something like that...just a thought

yeah you have to becarful with water in your engine specially that area cause thats around where your spark plugs are at. i would say take them off and cover your cams with a cloth so to get nothing in there and paint them up. or just wash them with some engine cleaner and a hose

power washing is fine as long as you dont directly hit the starter or distributer with water, and have hte car running while you do it.

I did mine with simple green and a garden hose.. only problem I had was that the 4AGE has a spark plug valley.. I didn't take this into account and got about 2inches of water stuck in there. The car wouldn't start at all after a few days when I thought it be safe and dry, started looking around and saw the water in there.. I was like.. oops! grabbed my dad's Shopvac, sucked the water out and let it dry for a couple of days with the hood open and it started fine.

A common problem is also that a small amount of water can get into the dizzy cap and cause moister build up!

I was told that if u run ur engine while spraying it with water (cool) the different temperature will cause problems with the head, could crack, the same as when u wash ur car and then spray ur HOT discs, causes them to warp. The surrounding area use water or steam gun, the area where ur spark plugs, dizzy use ur good old 10 fingers

I am pretty sure the head will not crack think of when you hit a big puddle and how hot the engine is... doesn't crack it just floods all the shit. If that was so people wouldn't be able to take things offroading...
you can totally submerge a jeep as long as you have a snorkle for the intake
