Corolla Paint turning Yellow

I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla SE. Last week for some unknown reason, the white rear bumper started to turn yellow -- a very dull light yellow color. Not all of the bumper is yellow -- just the top and a small portion of the sides near the trunk lid. I didn't spill anything on it and nothing leaked from the trunk. The car is washed regularly and up until last week, was fine. It was only yesterday when I noticed the dull yellowish coloring to a portion of the rear bumper. Does anyone have any clues why and how to resolve the problem?

On a second issue, I'd like to purchase a protective rubber self-adhesive strip that would protect the "deck" or "lip" area (that's now turned yellowish) on the bumper (you know -- the portion where you'd rest things as you opened the trunk lid.) I don't want to scratch it up and thought a self-adhesive rubber "mat" or bumper pad would help protect it, but I haven't found anything available in stores. Any help there?

Thanks all for your help.

if it looks shitty have it repainted. Did you own the car new? If not maybe its been in an accident and had the bumper fixed or replaced and painted with a cheap non UV resistant paint.

I bought the car used over a year ago. To the best of my knowledge, the bumper was never replaced. The discoloring just started the other day. Just wondering why now after having it for a year. It's been treated the same over the past year (garage at night, surface parking lot in the sun during the daytime).

Any suggestions on what brand of paint to buy or where to get it? I don't have a problem painting it, but just don't want to have it discolor again.

Thanks.

Before you think about painting, get a can of very fine rubbing compound and try it in a small spot.
