Question 2006 auto noisy shift into reverse

G'day everyone,

I'm new to the forum and to Corollas - I purchased a 2006 CE about three weeks ago as a "commuter car", so I could leave my gas-guzzling Chevy Avalanche in the garage. Anyhow, I notice that the Corolla makes a loud noise when shifting into reverse (it's an auto). It's much more noticeable when it's cold and the choke is on. It's a definite loud "clunk/thump" which is just a little quieter when the engine is warmed up (but is still present). Anyone else with a 2006 auto who gets that noise? I read somewhere that with this transmission there are some noises and that it's nothing to worry about. Can't remember where I read it. I'm just loving the Corolla though! Thanks!

Are you using the parking brake when it is in park?

Hi Daniel,

It seems to do it whether I use the park brake or not, and it's really noticable when the engine is cold. I'd expect to hear a clunk if it were resting on the gears in park with no handbrake - but it does it even when parked on a flat surface. I'm stumped. Not even my Av makes that kind of noise!

Jayne.
