yes.. in some countries the 4AFE and 4AGE came with the same transmission (C52) in North America, the 4AFE came with a C50 and the 4AGE came with the C52.

In japan the 4AGE (20V) came with the C56 and the later Blacktop 20V had an available 6spd C160 transmission.

What do you mean by "non-factory parts" ALL the parts you're gonna use are "factory parts" they're just not readily available in north america.

Use the search button, its a n00b's best friend.

Cuz according to pictures of engines on ebay it looks like the 4age has an intermediate shaft. I know the 4afe has a solid passenger axle. Stuff like that.

REN: The ST came with C52 as standard, C56 was an option - Mine came with C52

They just import more of the C56 to NA as people see them as more favourable. BT the c56 was standard..

I've always wondered if there's an actual way of telling the C52 and the C56 appart. I'll have to look at the transmission I have at my dad's, it may have a stamp somewhere.

Nope there is no way to tell them apart except checking the gear ratios. 91.5 to 93.5 silvertops had the c52 and 93.5+ had the c56.

All c series drive shafts are interchangable.

Yes the six speed will fit the silvertop, you will need to modify the gearbox mount (just slotting some holes out) and your shifter as the 5 speed ones don't have enough left-right movement to select reverse on the six speed box.

And 20v's only ever came FWD.
